Alabama Literary Review
I just received my copy of Alabama Literary Review, Volume 19, Number 1 (Fall 2010) and there are several Sphereans in there: Timothy Murphy, Julie Stoner's essay on Alan Sullivan's translation of Psalms 3 through 6, Alan Sullivan and Seree Zohar's translation of those same Psalms, Gail White, and yours truly (a sonnet and a ghazal). Also, Interesting translations of Borges by Robert Mezey and Dick Barnes and three cantos from Dante's Inferno by Mary Jo Bang.

Catherine beat me to the post, but my copy came today too, and I'm delighted at the way the Sphere rolls on...

I just a talk with our Master of Memory. Bob Mezey has no idea how nine of his Borges translations ended up at ALR, but he is just delighted with the company they keep, singling out the Sphereans: Cathy, Gail, Julie, Alan, Catharine Brosman, and yours truly. It really is a wonderful issue (Mezey: "Most poetry magazines make me puke, but this is terrific.) Gail, thank you for the short line get well card. I was so sick when you sent it me that I was incapable of responding to your generosity. This is the first issue since Bill Thompson's promotion to editor-in-chief, and it is cause for congratulations.

I need to get this issue. Sounds great.
Mezey has no idea how his Borges sonnets got into the issue? Weird.
Bill certainly favors Borges sonnets, though, having published one of mine in the previous issue. My guess is the Master of Memory saw it and figured rightly that he could do better, at least nine times.
ALR is shaping up as quite the venue for translation in general.

No, Bob, these go back more than a decade. I have them in the great samizdat Mezey/Barnes Collected Poems. They're very fine. There are actually eight, seven of them sonnets. Bob doesn't submit work any more, and I've written to Bill??? But it's quite possible Bill asked for permission and our Master of Memory just doesn't remember!
