The 5th edition of Western Wind: An Introduction to Poetry, is now out from McGraw-HIll. I'm very proud of additions and changes to the book, and I hope those of you who teach will get desk copies. It is, unfortunately, expensive--the usual textbook problem--though if it were used as one of only two or so texts for a class the expense would not be that much more than for any other class. I have found a few typos which will be fixed in a second printing. If anyone locates any errors that need fixing, I hope you will let me know at this address:

David,
I've ordered my desk copy. Thanks for the heads up. It's a tough call, but I will probably still be going with X.J. and Dana this fall; it's hard to teach an old syllabus new tricks. But I will keep an open mind for the spring (don't we all).

As Rilke famously said, "You must change your syllabus."
Seriously, Robert, I hope you'll find a lot to like in the new edition.
Best,
Dave

I look forward to reading it, Dave. When the new term starts I'll order one too. Meanwhile, Congratulations!

David, I need your expert opinion on this choice. I've been teaching something called "Rebel Angels" by a couple obscure guys whose names I keep forgetting...Should I junk them?

Yes, toss that trash, Michael, and go for Western Wind 5, or WW5, as I like to call it. The editors tell me they've knocked a few bucks off the cover price, and I see you can get a deal on it at Amazon.

I'm sure he would. By the way, Marman tells me Jason was hell to work with.

Dave:
It's a very nice anthology, but I feel compelled to admit to feelings of embarrassment, since I got a free copy from the publisher and yet I don't teach anymore.
What to do, what to do?
Read and enjoy, I guess.
And thank you, too, of course.
