New Anthology
I hold in my hands, hot off the press, The Penguin Anthology Of 20th Century American Poetry, edited by Rita Dove, and two Sphereans keep illustrious company within its pages: A.E. Stallings and David Mason.
It's an impressive tome, with a rich selection, and Alicia and Dave highly deserve inclusion.

20th Century? So passé.
But seriously, impressive and well-deserved. Congratulations Alicia and Dave.

Congratulations Alicia and Dave.
I'd love a copy of that to add to my collection, Cally. And, you see, I could collect it in person next June (signed, of course), thus saving the postage!
[Above is a good example of the English idiom 'brass neck' ]

If it is Penguin, it must be available where you are Jayne, luv.
Now I hope there are no more anthologies announced that I must have. Not until 2012 anyway.
Congratulations to David and Alicia!
BTW Cally, which of their poems are included?

I'm reading the introduction right now. Really interesting. How define it, on what basis the selection, etc. Dave, for instance, is a little surprised at the selection of his 'Spooning', which he doesn't regard as an example of his best work. Alicia's 'The Tantrum' was selected. It's organised chronologically, and the hard-back, though quite expensive at $40, has a lovely satin ribbon book-mark. Don't you love those?!
Imagine, though, being selected in a sweep of a century with the likes of Eliot, Stein, Jeffers, Frost, Auden, Bishop et al.!

The mind boggles. Also at the thought of a satin bookmark included in the forty bucks. Never mind, I'll look for (or wait) for the paperback.

Congratulations, Alicia and St. Dave--which I think is better than St. David, we like our saints informal around here! I'm looking forward to seeing this anthology, hardback and ribbon or not.
