Default John Whitworth

John has apparently won a large sum of money, but I can't find out from whom. He has also made the news here:

You're a rock star, John! And I hope you're pleased to be likened to Leonard Cohen, who is something of a genius when it comes to harmonizing doom and wit.

(Much as I love Bob Dylan, I think it's a bit silly -- pace Christopher Ricks -- to lionize him as a poet. But Cohen is a different story.)

Congratulations John,

Wonderful poem, translates well into this quiet, menacing song. Cool. Inspiring.

Red face

So John "I hate popular music" Whitworth is secretly the Bernie Taupin to Wes's Elton?!? Well done, Sir!

P.S. I love JWH's first album, Here Comes the Groom, but I haven't followed his career too avidly. He's also a novelist of some repute under his other name, Wesley Stace. That's all I know, because his first novel has been in the middle of my "read-soon" pile for something like 5 years...

Cool! The poem adapts to song lyrics very well. It sang even on the page.

Wow--you rock, John! (Or you folk-rock, anyhow.) Congratulations!

Rock on, indeed, John. (Is this why all my Facebook friends, the ones I thought would talk about poetry, are always linking to bands?) Super news; congrats.
