Just got my copy of the new Iambs & Trochess and reading through it at random and picking out those by Eratosphere favorites like Alicia Stallings, Rhina Espaillat, and Gail White, I've rediscovered the emotions I used to get reading the late, lamented The Formalist--envy, gratitude, and humility.

Good stuff. And I recognize some other names, like Leslie Monsour, another personal favorite, also from the Sphere.

Paul, it sounds wonderful. Is there a URL with Current information? The most recent thing I can find is here , which lists a deadline of APRIL 2002.

I have my copy too. It is full of good stuff and I agree that it sustains the role of "The Formalist". I have just started to investigate it but I am already delighted and touched by the strong, human poems of Rhina Espaillat, the exquisitely constructed poems by Alicia Stallings and a lovely translations of Dante and Villon by Marion Shore. There are some clever poems by Alfred Dorn, Susan McLean's Catullus poem, and so many more. It never bores. There's a scary poem about old age by Stephen Scaer (scare), and an up to date poem to his mistress's clothes (or the absence thereof) by Chris O'Carroll. I haven't read more than a very few poems as yet but already I am glad to have this edition.

Janet

Mike, Iambs & Trochess is a going concern. The new issue is dated Fall/Winer 2005. Volume IV, no. 2. The snail mail address is 6801 19th Ave. 5H, Brooklyn, NY 11204. Subscription is $15.
Hope that helps.
