Walking into a shop and finding your book for sale is a good thing, no?
Not really... when it's a charity shop, Roger! It's where 'chucked out' stuff goes.
Why couldn't they have given it to a friend instead? But I shall capitalise on it and get a few laughs at my future readings so it wasn't such a bad thing after all!
This experience reminds me of Judy Finnigan (a UK television presenter) who went out for dinner on her 40th birthday, in a nice dress. When her husband stopped the car at a traffic light she spotted the same dress in a charity shop window - a "Help the Aged" shop, which totally deflated her. That was a bit like how I felt when I saw my book on the shelf in the "British Heart Foundation" charity shop. But hey, I've got over it now
