Default First Things

I just heard from Paul Lake that he has accepted my translation of Jean de La Ceppède's "Insignia" (my title for the untitled sonnet) for First Things. I wish to thank those who offered suggestions on my translation, and especially Lance Levens, whose own translation of the work introduced me to it. I always feel a bit sheepish about taking a work someone else has translated in the workshop and doing it myself (except when the posting is meant to be a shared exercise), so I am sorry for poaching your poem, Lance. The version that was accepted was tweaked a bit after I posted it on the Translation thread.

Susan,

I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I wasn't a bit jealous, but I'd hardly call it poaching. We had a vigorous time trying our chops on a much neglected poet, you, Chris, and I--and Paul Lake and the good folks at First Things are the beneficiary of our efforts.
