Last year, A.E. Stallings initiated a lively Bouts-Rimes thread at General Announcements, based on the call for poems of the journal Court Green, published at Columbia College Chicago. The 2006 issue is out now, and the Bouts-Rimes Dossier features poems by these eratosphere members (sorry if I miss anybody): Jilly Dybka, Rhina P. Espaillat, Annie Finch (is she a member?), Simon Hunt, Kevin Andrew Murphy, Marion Shore, and A.E. Stallings. Other contributors--and there are dozens of poems using the same rhyme-words--include Denise Duhamel,Dorianne Laux, and Randall Mann.

By the way, the 2007 "dossier" will feature "Political Poetry." Submissions are due by 1 July 2006.

Congratulations to the many Spherians for making the cut at Court Green. The Bouts-Rimés contest was a lot of fun, even for those of us who didn't get in, and it is good to make a showing for formalists in journals that aren't necessarily sympathetic to formalism.

I believe Randall Mann is technically a member here too, although he only joined up for one thread and didn't remain posting after that.

Just got my copies today. It's a lot of fun. Though I'll admit there's kind of a weird gated community feeling with the issue, where all the free verse is on one side of the fence, and on the other is all the formal verse, except the formalists have only fourteen rhymes to play with.

Anyway, much fun, and thanks again to Alicia for tipping us off to it.

Kevin
