A Journal Looking for Good Poems
Dear Sphereans,
The editor of the European Journal of International Law, Joseph Weiler, sent the following note to First Things, asking for good poems for his journal. I wrote back to him and said I’d post his request for good poems on the Sphere.
Here’s his note to us:
In EJIL, the Journal I edit, (International Law) I publish a Last Page with a poem. Good ones are hard to come by. But FT seems to have an unending supply of extraordinary good ones. Do you think some of your poets would like to have some of their poems published with us -- different, global readership? (EJIL is the most successful law journal of Oxford University Press. In 2011 there were 400,000 downloads of its articles). Please put in a good word for me....
And here’s the website for the journal at Oxford Press, which contains contact info:

Paul,
Thank you for posting this. I took a look at the site. It looks like they publish already-published poems (as well as, I assume, unpublished). Is that correct? I can't find anything (so far) that talks about poetry submissions specifically.
Thanks so much!

On their submissions page there is no category listed for poetry.

Well, I just went ahead with the process, using their system, and it seemed to work. Just got an email confirming it had been received. So we'll see!

What sorts of poems do lawyers read? I think I'll send something suitably foul-mouthed. Or perhaps Christian uplift. Or love. Lawyers are undoubtedly in need of Love.

Here's what I came up with searching the site.... And attached... stuff about Midas; some kind of mountain expedition; something about Xeroxing and immigration; and the end of the world.
They might need you, John!

PS: couldn't get the attachments to work, but it's all on the link.

I can't crack the bloody website at all. How did you do it, Charlotte?

John, I don't know if this will help, but here is the link for registering, the link for online submissions, and also a link with instructions for submitting manuscripts.
Best,
Ed
P.S. This is just a guess (Bill and/or Uche are far more likely to have the answer): Does your computer have pop-up blocking software? If so, you may have to disable it temporarily if the problem continues.
