A number of Spherians won 2006 New England Poetry Club awards:
- Most notably, Rhina Espaillat was named recipient of the May Sarton Award, given intermittently to a poet whose work is an inspiration to other poets.
- Jodie Reyes won the Der-Hovanessian Prize competition for a translation from any language.
- Michael Cantor won the Erika Mumford Prize for a poem in any form about foreign culture or travel.
(Speaking personally, the $250 Mumford prize brings my total poetry earnings for the year to well over $400 - and it's only September! Who said you couldn't make a good living from this?)

How exciting, Michael! And $$$ besides! I guess you can put that part-time cat on the payroll now?
Warm congratulations to you, Rhina and Jody!
May we know the titles of the poems? Any links to the poems themselves?

Congratulations to all three of you. And let me note that Rhina's award is especially apt because she has, indeed, been an inspiration to other poets.

Congratulations to all. Even out here in the badlands gladness is felt. All poets I admire which is very nice to know.

I get to say a few words on 9/24 to the NEPC's high school and college-age prize winners. Tickled pink, as I love cheering on the young poets.

To fill in the details: Rhina will be receiving the May Sarton award - and talking and reading - at 1:30 PM Sunday, September 24, at the Longfellow Historic Site on Brattle Street in Cambridge.

Michael, I'm just impressed you have a poetry earnings total "for the year"! Congrats, all.
