Great News! Congratulations to my friend and Powow colleague Robert Crawford, who heard this week that his sonnet, The Empty Chair, has been selected as the winner of the 2006 Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award. (Bob was not told who the other prize winners were - guess we'll have to wait for the formal announcement - unless others have been informed.)

Sneak Preview advice: Bob and Guest Reader Kate Light will be reading in Newburyport, MA, on February 14 - Valentines Day - as part of the regular Powow River Poets Reading series. Details will be posted in a week or so.

That's great. The Sphere and the Powows certainly rule the Nemerov prizes. Does anyone know how many we've won? Kate and Bob will give a great reading. They are both very sensual love poets, and this strikes me as a dream double billing.

Tim - Powows have won six out of twelve Nemerovs. Rhina twice, Mike Juster twice, Deborah Warren, and now Bob. And for Sphereans, add yourself and Marion Shore (I hope I didn't miss anybody), and we're batting .667.

Way to go, Bob.

For those who want to see another excellent sonnet by Robert Crawford, check out the new (Feb) issue of First Things.
