Not the most prestigious accomplishment, to be sure, but it's poetry-related and I'm proud of it:
This autumn marks my completion of 5 years of volunteer service as a docent at Robinson Jeffers's Tor House in Carmel. I get a certificate, and my name will be added to the plaque commemorating long-serving docents.
As always, Eratosphere members who pass this way should let me know if they'd like my help in arranging a visit to Tor House (open to the public, but in very limited numbers and only on Fridays and Saturdays).

Simon,
Congratulations. My family and I visit Monterey and Pacific Grove fairly often, but I have never been to the Tor House (though I have entered the contest before). Perhaps next time we come to the Monterey area, I'll PM you ahead of time.
Best,
David R.

What an interesting kind of service to poetry. Probably all of us who care about poetry feel an attachment that goes beyond the words on the page to the people who produced them, and often even to the places those people lived and worked. I know a number of poets who have made pilgrimages to such places (and I have made a few myself). It serves a useful purpose to be one of those who help the places be open to those who seek them out, and who can make the connection clearer between the place and the poet. Thanks, Simon.

Simon,
Congratulations from me as well. I don't get out that way often, but you'll hear from me if I do. For years I've wanted to see Tor House. Even if I never make it to this historic site, I’m happy to know that visitors there receive high-quality interpretation of Jeffers’s work and of the significance of his home. As a committed, long-term docent, you bring a depth of understanding that is truly valuable.

I'll be at the Jeffers conference this year and hope to make it to Tor for my first visit. Congrats on your service, Simon.

Simon,
I want to make it to Tor House one day but I've no idea when or if that will ever be. Anyway, congratulations. It must be a fantastic place to work.

Just working in Carmel, not to mention there, is so cool, congratulations seem almost superfluous! But big kudos to you, Simon!
