I've had the most sensational letter from Catherine Savage Brosman, taking a couple of poems for Chronicles: A Journal of American Culture. Hope y'all will look for me.

Well done, JR. Not just poetry, American culture!

Sensational news, or would be if it was less surprising- we've come to expect this from you.

Congratulations,

Jim

It interests me greatly that CS Brosnan has taken over as po editor from Tom Fleming at Chronicles. She is a very good poet, based only on what I've seen in Sewanee and Chronicles over the years. Alan had an acceptance from her last week by return email. Congratulations, Jennifer.

Thank you, gentlemen. Tim, what fantastic news about Alan, too! I look forward to his own, as Ms. Brosman impresses me regularly. Slipp, yes, you *are* the best. And, of course, Bob, Jim, you know this is your fault. You two have been encouraging this Narnian mouse all these years...

Happy holidays, everyone. Peace on earth. Goodwill to men.

J

I just sent a new poem to Catharine Brosman, and I received my acceptance the following day. So that makes three of us who have had excellent experience of Chronicles' new editor. She is fully booked through August, however.

Chronicles has been a great home for many good poets, Sam Gwynn, Alfred Nicol, Paul Lake, David Middleton, Dana Gioia, Alan. They've published twenty-nine of my poems. I saw a poem I really liked at Deep End about a stern wheeler on the Mississippi. I don't recall which nom de plume David Halitsky was using, but I think it was his first print publication. Really glad to see you there, Jennifer. Not so long in the tooth as the rest of us.

This is news to me, about Sam, Paul, Dana, et al. What great and unexpected company. I actually only discovered the magazine six or seven months ago, having picked up a copy at a local bookstore to find they'd published an acquaintance of mine, a fellow Louisianian named Wil Mills, whose A Light for the Orphans came out from Story Line awhile back. For years, I've admired Catharine Brosman from afar, through Sewanee Review and other venues. This was my first submission, and may have caught them in transition, as she wrote in her letter (which was the first communication I'd had with her), that the Rockford Institute had to forward the work to her, ergo the somewhat longer response time I received.
