It was announced a short while ago that our own Rose Kelleher has won the prestigious Anthony Hecht Prize for 2008, judged by Richard Wilbur. We all know how talented Rose is and how justly she deserves this. A hundred cheers!

Amazing news! Rose, you have arrived. What an honor to be chosen by Wilbur and with a prize named after Hecht!

Nothing I can think of is quite up to the job of saying how great this is.
It's wonderful, Rose. Most of all, it's deserved.
Kudos.

Last August, Rose sent me her manuscript. Here are some excerpts of how I responded after reading it:
~~~
You should win. YOU SHOULD WIN! This is such a strong collection - I'm totally speechless. I'm kind of overwhelmed with what I just read. I feel like I need to write an essay on your book, so I can begin to understand how it moves me. It's so fresh and free from pomposity. There's motion and air and brilliance and life. See, I can't really explain it. YOU SHOULD WIN!
~~~
And you won, Rose!
Major kudos,
Mary
