I won $50.00 for being chosen as 2nd place winner for the Shine Poetry Journal contest. To be honest with you, while I do recall entering, I don't recall how or where I heard about the contest. I know that's kind of awful... but apparently I just happened upon it somehow and entered via the on-line submission. But it's for real. And I'm excited because other than being paid once (with a check I never cashed) some ten years ago for a poem I wrote for a print magazine called 'Romantic Hearts', I've never won anything for a poem. I've been published, but I had never won a 'contest'.
The winning poem is a sonnet called 'Journey' which I had submitted to a couple of journals that did not accept it for publication (no sweat, everyone has different tastes).
I especially want to thank Margaret Menamin who helped me workshop the poem over on Sonnet Central last year. If anyone is currently in touch with her, please give her this news and my sincerest thanks.
