I just got word that one of my fictional pieces, "Joey," will be published in the January issue of Greensilk Journal. It is a story about music and will appear in a special issue of that journal centered on stories about music and musicians.
The spirit of Nick Drake lives on.

That's really nice, David. Can you elaborate a bit on how the story is about music?

Diane, I've been writing a series of stories on music and musicians and have published 16 of them in different magazines the last three years or so. They deal with the different facets of a musician's life (I am a musician and perform and play locally--guitar). The story is called "Joey," based on a song by the seventies singer Nick Drake--the song is about an enigmatic woman named Joey, and has intruiging lines like "She may tell you, you're not so good for her / She wouldn't be there if it could be that you were." So I used the song as an imaginative jumping off point and tried to create the character of Joey as I saw her and construct a story around her.
So that's a little about it. I'll post it when it goes on line next month.

Congrats, David. Can't wait to read it. I loved him, too, and Joey is a beautiful song. Wish we could hear you play it, too.

Thanks, Pat, I am a Nick Drake Fanatic and love his music--and try to play it, though he was such a fabulous guitarist I can do it little justice. If you really are intrigued by "Joey," check out a story I published a couple of years ago called "The Girl Who Knew Nick Drake." The Girl Who Knew Nick Drake . It was published in an on-line venue called Amarillo Bay. Long, but I think it's a great story.
