Our Master of Memory, Robert Mezey, has lost the apple of his eye, his two year old grandson, who succumbed to a terrible long struggle with leukemia yesterday. I didn't think it appropriate to tell our members on his birthday thread.

When I met Bob, Henri Coulette had died, Dick Barnes was dying, all the world dissolving. But then this little boy came into his life. "The ones they love the Gods take young" is inadequate consolation for this loss. Timothy

Oh God. My deepest condolences, along with knowledge of their meaninglessness. This isn't the way this is supposed to work. I'm so sorry.

The death of a child is the hardest of all to bear.
I am so sorry.

Robert,
It's impossible to imagine (without first-hand experience) how it must feel to watch a young child die slowly.
Sincerest condolences,
Margaret.

Dear Bob, The loss is unspeakable I am sure. I can not fathom. I am so very sorry. Nothing anyone says now matters, but many thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Amy Small-McKinney

O Tim, I can't imagine. My condolences to the family, how I wish words could comfort.

What can one say? Words never seem more inadequate.
