Some of you will remember Wendy Sloan from West Chester, some from the Modern Metrics series in New York. We are pleased to announce she will be reading at our new venue on Saturday, January 20 at 4 pm.

Wendy Sloan practiced union democracy and labor-side labor law for many years with the New York City firm of Hall & Sloan. She holds an A.B. degree in English Literature from Connecticut College and a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. Her work has appeared in Iambs & Trochees. She lives in New York City with her husband, Jonathan Chasan, an attorney with the Prisoners' Rights Project of the Legal Aid Society, and near her daughter, Rachel Chasan, a resident physician at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Having heard her read at a few Opens, I recommend her work for its high intelligence and freshness and her voice for its sobering gentleness. Come and hear for yourself.

The new venue is

The Shooting Star Theatre
At the South Street Seaport between Front and South Streets

40 Peck Slip (Third Floor)
New York, NY 10038
Contact number for the theatre:
718.852.7773 www.shootingstartheatre.org

There will also be an Open for metrical poems and the admission is $5.

Host: Terese Coe

Directions:

By subway, take the 2, 3, 4, or 5 to Fulton Street, or A or C to Broadway/Nassau. Walk East on Fulton (towards the South Street Seaport). Turn left on Pearl Street, walk two blocks (Beekman and then Peck Slip). Turn right on to Peck Slip. Shooting Star Theatre is at 40 Peck Slip, on the south side, 3rd Floor. There are parking lots across the street and nearby for those with cars.

Bus: #M15 at Second Avenue to Peck Slip.

Modern Metrics' plans for February, March, and April readings feature Kate Light, Len Krisak, and Joshua Mehigan, respectively.

Wendy--

I'm sure you'll kick serious behind.

And I always say this, but New York Sphereans who don't show up will be expected to present doctor's notes to Terese by the Wednesday after the reading. If you miss this, you had better be in the hospital... and we have ways of finding out...

Thanks, Quincy, for your (literal) support!

Hopefully we'll have some fun on Saturday at Modern Metrics' new location, the Shooting Star Theater at South Street Seaport. And possibly meet some Eratosphereans in person?

Gusty out there today, but the Show goes on despite the wind chill! See you soon, Wendy.

Hey, if the post office can brave the elements, surely the poets can as well! Nemo
