I don't expect that anyone will be close enough to attend, but I thought I'd announce that I and eight other female faculty members at Southwest Minnesota State University are giving a public reading of Alicia Stallings's poetry on Mon., Mar. 26, at 11:30 a.m. in Charter Hall 201 in honor of Women's History Month. I have been organizing such readings every year since 1997, and other poets I have put together readings on have included Rhina Espaillat, Deborah Warren, Gail White, Wendy Cope, Dorothy Parker, Linda Pastan, Sharon Olds, Louise Gluck, and Emily Dickinson.

What a great series! I'm glad you're featuring Alicia's work and wish it weren't so far away.

Actually, I need to make it clear that Alicia is NOT coming to Marshall. I and other faculty are doing a reading of her poetry. My university doesn't have the kind of budget to bring in readers from far away, unfortunately, so this is my solution.

I am very tickled and honored, too, to be in such excellent company. What a nice idea, Susan. I hope the evening goes well! I'll be there in spirit.

I just thought I'd report that the event went well. We nine readers read twenty-six poems of Alicia's. The audience was about twenty-four, which isn't bad for a poetry reading in which the author is not actually there to read.
