Thanks to those of you who chipped in to spread the word about this year's Creeley Award with Yusef Komunyakaa as featured reader.
We had an amazing audience for poetry...approaching 400.
Mark Schorr, President of the Frost Foundation wrote this:
"My wife Natalie and I enjoyed this year's festival and reading. That is the largest poetry audience I can remember seeing in Massachusetts -- even larger than Pinsky reading Dante at Memorial Hall and Seamus Heaney at Lawrence High. O the times they are a changin'"
It was a grand evening.
The following day, Yusef visited the high school, where he read and answered brilliant questions from an audience of 175 students. I witnessed that with great joy.
The editor of the high-school lit mag presented the poet with a hand-blown vase she'd created. He carried it as if it were a pre-mature baby.
It will hard to improve on this year's event, but we're already planning '08.
Many thanks,
Bob
