Mike Juster's poem No Man's Island was just announced as winner of the 2007 Newburyport Art Association Poetry Contest. Half the awards went to active Spherians or alumni: Len Krisak won Third Prize, and Susan McLean, Claudia Gary Annis, Deborah Warren and Michael Cantor received Honorable Mentions. Jan Schreiber judged. (Apologies if I overlooked any other members.)

Congratulations to all. I can hardly wait to read your work! Will they all be read at Newburyport?

Great news, and a well deserved honor for all. Someone please let us know how we can see the work as soon as it's made public.

Congratulations to everyone! Eratosphere made a good showing at the contest. Richard, the results are posted on the wall at the reading in May, but are not published in connection with the contest. So you may hear about some of them being published individually, but they will not all be together.

Susan

But there's a reading at Newburyport where they're read, right? Will it on Memorial Day or ... ?

This notice from Rhina Espaillat provides the information you asked for, Wendy:

We hope that many of you will find it possible to join us at the Awards Day Reading on Sunday, May 20, at 5 PM, at the handicapped-accessible NAA Gallery, 65 Water Street, Newburyport. All entries received will be on display, the Prize and Honorable Mention poems will be read aloud (whenever possible by their authors), Jan Schreiber will read a selection of his own work, and the Awards and Certificates will be distributed. The event is free and open to the public, and includes a reception during which to get to know the poets.

Congratulations to you all! And thanks for posting the info about the reading, Susan. It would be a great excuse to visit famed Newburyport and Plum Island, something I've been planning to do this year.

Toni
