I love Landrum's poems 'Necessary Evil' and 'Hipparchia' . I haven't read all the others yet.

And kudos to Catherine Chandler. I just now read her translations of three ballads by Federico García Lorca. I sure do admire those who translate poetry and other literature. It has to be a tedious process.

Thanks, Anne,

Sometimes translation can be tedious, as you say, so I don't do it that often. These three were not tedious to do at all. I'm glad you liked them.

Anne--thanks for the compliments on my poems. The two you mentioned I enjoyed doing. "The Sultan is Pleased" was a hard, rough poem to write, but writing poems is not always pleasant.

Catherine, your translations were marvelous. I've never been taken with Lorca, though everyone raves about what a great poet he was. I see now the problem was bad translations. Your translations bring out the vigor, energy, and cascading music of his poems. What I have read of his in translation prior to today did not do that but were flat and boring. Congratulations and thanks!

This issue of LRR has tons of great poetry in it. I espeically liked the Civil War poems by S. Thomas Summers and the poems by Allen Itz.

Chris,
A very good issue, congratulations to all those involved.
I thought David's 'Necessary Evil' was particularly impressive--so much compressed into such a small space. We were screwed from the start--lol.

Regards, Maz

Thanks, David,

I especially liked your "The Sultan is Pleased", on its several levels of meaning!

Congratulations, Chris! I enjoyed Catherine's Lorca translations--haven't gotten to the other work yet.
