Default local contest

I found out yesterday that one of my poems, "Easter Sunday, 1956," won the local county poetry contest here in Kent County, Michigan. The national judge was Janine Pommy Vega. You win $150.00, publication in their journal, and read during the Summer Festival here in town.

This may be slumming a little, but rejections have flowed like water and acceptances gone down to a trickle for me of late, so any news about favorable reception of a poem is good news.

David

I hardly think this is slumming, David! Congratulations! Any money at all is a good thing...and maybe you'll become a house-hold name in your town...sounds good to me.

This is nothing to sneeze at. And don't forget The Dark Horse--you can dance on those rejection slips.

Certainly not slumming, David. Congratulations on this and the Dark Horse acceptance, both impressive feats to dance with (sorry).

Never look a gift from a fan in the mouth, or however that goes.

When they love you, David, hug them back.

Congratulations.

David,

I know how you feel about the flow and trickle -- that's why I have been hanging my hat on haiku. Anyway, there is no slumming from what I see. Money is money, and Vega's no slouch. Congrats!

I think it's impressive, especially because you received a nice prize for your poem. Congratulations.
