Poetry East, and others
I've just received an acceptance of three poems, from Poetry East, a journal I was trying for the first time. They took "Pending," workshopped a while back on Met, and "Will," also on Met, much longer ago, and "The Sorceress Plots Her Comeback," which got massive help from regulars here, though in another locale. Thanks, everyone, for everything.
I always get especially excited about a first acceptance from any particular publication, so these make me very happy, and so do the ones from Literary Bohemian, (they took my airport ditty), The Flea, and Able Muse.
And no complaints about The Barefoot Muse, either!
(And we will conveniently ignore the 39 rejections I've had since the beginning of June. )
Thanks again.

I'm trying to recollect that phrase you so often use. How does it go now?
Flopping catfish, what a haul ! Or sumpin' like that.
Big congrats, Maryann. Well deserved acceptances in fine venues.

Congratulations! Back in my free verse days, a long time ago, I had a couple of poems published in Poetry East. At least back then, it was very, very rare for them to publish formal verse, which I presume is what you sent them. They tended toward simple, conversational (but tight), emotional (but not sentimental) free verse, and I always enjoyed reading it very much. I'm so glad that it is still being published, and now I have a good reason to look for it again. Well done!

Thanks, everyone!
Yes, Roger, I sent them blank verse, irregularly rhymed het-met, and a double abecedarian in five-stress lines. I figured it was worth a shot when I saw Maura Stanton's work in the latest issue in my local Barnes and Noble. Editor Richard Jones is still going strong, publishing exactly the sort of work you describe, and writing it too--there's a piece of his in an online edition of AGNI. I'll try to add a link.
PS: the AGNI link I promised.

Maryann,
Wow! Hurrah! That's quite a haul!
I raise my champagne glass to you in celebration!
And all this on top of your reading to start the summer! It's been a good season!
Thanks,
Bill
