Default Thanks to Paul Stevens

So I got back from my holidays to the dispiriting news that Poetry had rejected one of my little offerings, only to be greatly cheered a little later by an email from Paul to say he'd accepted two poems for The Chimaera Feb/March edition ("Apostrophe: Beeches at Wenmouth Cross" and "Do Not Go East", both of which where workshopped here - Janice helped enormously on the second one so thanks to her too).

Thanks Paul

Philip

Poetry is the loser, Philip. Poetry, thanks to Paul, is not.

Does anybody get into Poetry? I suppose somebody must. I didn't.

Wendy V does and so does Alicia and the worst of it is they are both nice and fine poets so hatred is out of the question.
Oh and Tim Murphy did but I forgive him.

Philip, any editor worth his/her salt will appreciate you when you're on your mettle. Paul is worth his salt.

And Peter B is salt and pepper.

And we won't forget Aaron P. and Nemo, either. Or Rhina. And there may be others among the folks who were active in the board's earliest days. Editing back: And I forgot Sam! I should never have started this--there are probably many I'm forgetting, and I'll have to beg pardon.

So Poetry is not impossible. But isn't it a much greater pleasure to contribute to an editor you can interact with? Blessings to Paul, and Peter B., for all they do, and congrats to Philip.

Philip,

Congrats on the acceptance. It's well deserved!

Thanks,

Bill

Congratulations Philip. Thank you for your kind words, but all credit must fall to the poet, as it is he/she who makes the decisions.

Peter Bloxsom too! Selection is a co-editorial process, and Peter has a very rigorous mind. I get the credit because I write the accept/decline letters, but Peter is just as active as I am on selection.

How to say the next thing without sounding smarmy? Probably can't, but it bears saying anyway, so I'll just cop the smarminess charge: those who submit work are the ones who deserve thanks. No submissions, no magazine. Simple as that. Rose Kelleher has a few choice — and very true — things to say about that and related matters here: http://ramblingrose.com/wordpress/in...es-for-editors

Quite right - Kudos to Peter too!

Also apologies. Good form probably dictates that you announce publications rather than acceptances, but I'm rather new to all this.

Perhaps I am guilty of what the late, great, John Mortimer might have called "premature exultation"?

'twas aye thus...

Philip
