Default Small World

Last fall I workshopped eight lines of pentameter at TDE, Broken Connection, which is about calling Helen Hecht and getting Tony's voice on the answering machine. Paula Dietz just took it, admitting that she didn't really figure out what was going on in the poem until she called Helen and got Tony's voice! I'll include a dedication to make it more transparent. Of course Paula is very much in Helen's position, having lost Fred Morgan; but she has the Hudson Review to run, and I am very grateful for her patronage. Fred was the first editor to publish me in 1995, and THR has been stalwart in its support not just of my work but of Alan's for what will soon be fifteen years.

Gray's just published as their centerfold The Blind Retrieve which I workshopped here last fall. Big six part hunting poem. And I just returned from a pheasant hunt to find they've taken the two big hunting sequences I've written this fall. It really thrills me to be read by 68,000 of the most serious hunters and fishermen in the world. Much as I feel about having devotional poems read by serious Christians in First Things. The last time I was there, earlier this fall, Jody and Paul put me on the same page with Espaillat, whose poem was so much better than mine!

Tim,

Aren't you in this month's First Things?

I thank all of you who commented on Prison Chaplain and on Mizar and Alcor in Winter.
