Alan and Tim, I am deeply

Alan and Tim,
I am deeply impressed by what I have just read. It was hard for someone like me who comes from a different background to understand some of what was happening when I first met you on the Deep End. Alan commented on the effect of war on poetry. Perhaps, from inside America, you did not realise the gulf that the cold war also created in the wider English-speaking world. I thank you for showing me a way to find common cause with someone whose conditioning was so different from my own. Your words about music and science resonated deeply for me. You have brought much serious beauty to poetry.

I am privileged to have shared some time with you.
Janet
