2019 Contest Winners Announcement

Able Muse is pleased to announce the winners of the Write Prize for poetry & fiction (judged anonymously throughout by the Able Muse Contest Committee and the final judges, Jacob M. Appel  for fiction, and Erica Dawson for poetry). The winning writer and the winning poet will each receive a $500 prize.

Write Prize (for Fiction), Final Judge: Jacob M. Appel

Erin Russell

FICTION WINNER: Erin Russell - "To the Bottleneck Fiction"

Here is what Jacob M. Appel has to say about Erin Russell's winning story:

"'To the Bottleneck' is a story as gripping as it is haunting—a mysterious foray into the human psyche and into a compact universe of unknown surprises. At its core, the piece is a tale of mother and child, the latter's distinctive voice authentic in every syllable. Rarely have I encountered a world so alien and simultaneous so familiar to my own. Genuine magic from the pen of a gifted literary sorcerer."

The winning story will be published in the Winter 2019 issue of Able Muse, print edition. (No other entry in the fiction category achieved selection for publication.)

FICTION HONORABLE MENTION:

Luke Tennis - "Starfish"

FICTION SHORTLIST:
