Ghazal: Reality

by C. E. Chaffin

I don’t want to be shown reality.
Green maggotsmust I own reality?

Doctors give clean names to rank diseases.
Medicine de-bones reality.

The miser saves his saliva in a cup.
His avarice has blown reality.

I’ve watched ants eat a grasshopper.
Ants only know a drone reality.

Our president is mad but marches on.
He labors in a lone reality.

Hip-hop erupts from trucks and shakes my car.
Its fans must seek a tone reality.

Ubiquitous cell phones assault my ears.
The young live in a phone reality.

Our daughters want to be like Britney Spears.
We lose them to a clone reality.

If God exists, he rarely intervenes
Fanatics cling to throne reality.

The sociopath views humans as mere things.
His lies are stones to hone reality.

Death and disease, poverty and despair.
Does anyone condone reality?

God bless the saints whose good works never cease
Although they have been shown reality.
