Thieves Like Us

by Melissa McEwen

Let’s live like on the run lovers
without the guns or the murders.
You can be Bowie, me: Keechie.
I stole you from M____; you stole me.

You’re from the city and nineteen.
I am a small town townie queen.
You can be Clyde and me: Bonnie.
I stole you from M____; you stole me.

Let’s run away to Mexico
like we were real deal criminals.
You can be Caril, me: Charlie.
I stole you from M____; you stole me.

Let’s disappear, come on let’s go.
’Tis a Lover’s Obbligato.
We are lovers and we are thieves.
I stole you from M____; you stole me.
