Tilt-a-Whirl
A Poetry Sporadical of Repeating Forms

Did You Knock?

by Peggy Aylsworth

Who will remember? Who will be fair?
What good is promise peppered with doubt?
Can there be darkness without despair?

Would I conceal what I won’t share?
When there is flood, do you pity the drought?
Who will remember? Who will be fair?

Will your sharp words splinter the air?
On the bent back, what’s the weight of a shout?
Can there be darkness without despair?

If regrets turn to marble, what hope can repair?
One house filled with breath. Is the other without?
Who will remember? Who will be fair?

Which moon makes the night easy to bear?
In winter trees what do birds sing about?
Can there be darkness without despair?

Does morning sky help the lonely declare?
Did love redeem the impervious lout?
Who will remember? Who will be fair?
Can there be darkness without despair?
