In My House We Swallow Canaries
I sit in the sun, reviewing my tale:
it’s different each time, the gist of my tale.
So many shapes start to shift in the dark
when I contemplate the twist of my tale.
It’s hard to suss out where some people stop
and where I pick up the midst of my tale.
My words hook rats and pounce on the mice
caught in each story I insist is my tale.
Content with the malleable purr of the past
I sit and flick shadows—casuist of my tale.
