Barbara Crooker

is the author of three poetry collections,  Radiance and Line Dance, from Word Press, and More released by C&R Press in 2010.

Her journal credits include Yankee, Smartish Pace, The Beloit Poetry Journal, Nimrod, and The Denver Quarterly. Among her awards are three creative writing fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the 2004 W.B. Yeats Society of New York Award, and the 2003 Thomas Merton Poetry of the Sacred Award (selected by Stanley Kunitz).

Barbara lives in rural northeastern Pennsylvania, with her husband and son, who has autism.

’Tis sent electronically—
My simple news, my daily word
In virtual reality.

This message is transmitted
To those I cannot see—
To all my friends in cyberspace:
Judge tenderly of me.

 

The Information Age

How lovely to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
On an admiring blog!

To twitter and to tweeter
Like a butterfly—or moth
To tell your every action
To add it to the broth

That’s cooking up potatoes
On a simmer—in a pot
You think that we are eager
But oh, I tell you—not.
