Love’s Alchemy

What mis-alchemy have we done?
The light in your eyes, their shadows too,
the scintillations of my desire,
have mixed and congealed into this
dull thing sinking down,
nameless as the grave of a child
who died before it was born,
the uncut stone brute, blind, dumb.
