Writer, Writer
A parody by Laura Heidy-Halberstein
Writer Writer, budding scribe,
what’s your latest diatribe?
What politician’s wandering eye
Has framed thy fearful latest lie?
In what magazine or rag
burns your byline or your tag?
In what font dare you desire
to get some politician fired?
What innuendo, artless art,
will sway the voter’s mind and heart?
And when thy hand begins to type—
What dread rumor? What dread hype?
What the headline? What refrain?
In what gutter is thy brain?
What the devil? What dread wish
inspires printing deadly dish?
When senators throw up their booze
who thought that it would make the news?
Did you smile your work to see?
Did we who read the news make thee?
Writer, writer, budding scribe
what’s your latest diatribe?
What politician’s wandering eye
has framed your latest dreadful lie?
