True Colors

Cunning chameleon,
dapper didactyl,
changing its coat with
each change of its mood.

Bold advertiser
of sexual readiness,
something like people,
but even more shrewd.

Sporting a tail that can
curl up compactly,
snapping up prey
with a flick of its tongue.

Cleverly camouflaged,
patiently waiting,
the lizard eludes us
until it has sprung.
