Not a Mop

What gets my dirty dishes clean
is not a fancy white machine.
It’s rather good at sweeping floors,
but doesn't work on walls or doors.
Every day, it wakes me up,
but it’s no steaming coffee cup.
It has, at times, made paper damp
(but don’t go thinking postage stamp).
The answer lies across my knees
requesting that I scratch it, please.
