Crooked Dice
We’re the same two sides to every story,
a guaranteed dozen however thrown,
we’re the meridian, the apostles,
the calendar months, a pair of moody
blue bamboozling cubes, we’re a double six,
you can count on it, tracing our face’s Braille.
Jig us in tumblers, serve us off the wrist,
blow hot breath on us, constricted in fists.
The end of fair game? That was our doing,
slung in turns, interrogated apart,
a captive couple refusing to crack,
insistent to the end it was just luck.
The ruse is in our roll, swapped on the sly.
We’re an outcome cast in permanent dye.
