Time Zones

When sleep lifts, admitting your mind,
and you enter the day I am leaving,
don’t imagine that time is unkind—
but remember the way we were weaving

in the wind as the waves rushed shoreward,
how the sand stung our faces and showed
our footprints, alone, pushing forward,
up the dunes, through the trees, to the road.
