Tilt-a-Whirl

A Poetry Sporadical of Repeating Forms

The Triplets (or Tercets) of Belleville

by Kim Bridgford

The three of us make music.
We don’t care what we eat.
The outside world is tragic.

We turn away from logic.
We laugh; then we create.
The three of us make music;

The three of us make magic
With broom, and can, and plate.
The outside world is tragic.

We’re unapologetic,
And take what we can get.
The three of us make music

As daily anesthetic
For disappointed fate.
The outside world is tragic.

But tripartite aesthetic
Is like laughter, long and sweet.
The three of us make music.
The outside world is tragic.
