Rum!

This is a rum affair! I thought:
    Those daring birds, instead
Of flying underfoot—Blow me!—
    They’re flying overhead!

And babies seem—extraordinary!—
    To be both cute and small;
Rather than rise, the night begins,
    Miraculously, to fall!

Expected unexpecteds! Known
    Unknowns, and unknown knowns,
With flashing lightning, rustling leaves,
    Soft sunsets and hard stones:

World of surprise reversals! How
    Bizarre, still, to discover
The person best described as “I”
    Contrives to be your lover!
