Love’s richly a word, no less, much more.
And if it were not such a chore
to adore it would be too easy
to win or to lose.

What other things have I said?

Men (and sometimes even women)
like that softness in their woman.
Women, on the other hand, and men,
like that hardness in their man.

Zita Zenda 05-14-2003 04:12 PM

Hardness (that is found in women)
isn’t liked as when in men.
Softness, on the other hand, in man,
shows he’s found his inner woman.

Age ripens hearts of Camembert
and a rugged Green Beret.
(I rather like this crooked rhyme,
as if it too was past its prime.)
Age will harden crust of bread
and a courtisan's corsète.
(Unless it was already strong
as De Beauvoir or Ms Jong.)

Zita Zenda 05-14-2003 07:52 PM

Stinky cheese will age a heart
and thicken arteries.
(If it’s okay I’ll change the feet
to fit the foot that strolls this street.)
Crusty bread will thin a waist
and stuff a roasted pheasant.
(I seem to have a twisted rhyme
I screwed it up to speed my time.)

Don’t make me look up those people!

Cheese is cardio-delight,
you may eat it day and night.
Bread and cakes, potato latkes –
are anathema. Ask Atkins.

Zita Zenda 05-15-2003 06:40 PM

Let’s cut the cheese, leave cake for bees,
I’m begging down on bended knees
to please un-grease that baking pan!
Get back to woman, and to man,
whose parts are softer/harder than
the one’s whose other hand is… Please?

Delightfully Chauvinistic

Only woman’s unforgiving,
Only God’s without a sin –
That’s the reason our living
Isn’t smooth like margarine.

Women-snakes are hurting fella,
Spitting poison, shedding skin –
That’s the reason life ain’t jello.
Reuptake serotonin!

There must be a solid reason,
Though it’s not apparent why,
All that’s noble, all that’s decent
Comes from chromosome called Y.

There is only one redemption –
Amputate offending gland
Or (if I forgot to mention)
Nuke immediately Cleveland.

Life is short; one day I'll wake
to find that I am dead,
with no more time for chocolate cake
or pumpernickel bread,
or charcoal grilled (rare) Angus steak,
or coffee quaffed for caffeine's sake,
or beer that beckons, "Please partake!"
or pretty things that bakers bake
with taste that tells the fat's not fake.
Alas, I've got to drink this shake
and feel I've not been fed.
With extra time left on my break,
I'll resurrect this thread.

On reading the Ekphrasis thread:

You've got to feel sorry for Auden's poor Icarus
since his predicament's rather ridiculous,
flailing his feathers that sneakily tickle us,
garnering giggles that make us indecorous.
"Aaaaaugh!" SPLASH! We chuckle; how sick of us!

On using highfalutin allusions:

Pity the wannabe-peach-eating dodderer,
over-invoked by the Eliot utterer,
shiny pate famously fated for better or
worse to be polished by scholar and tutor a-
like in the verse that he's cursed to be fodder fer.

Another highfalutin allusion:

Imagine how weird it'd be to be Leda;
far better that she's the one shagged than the reader!
A Trojan too late, who'da reckoned that she'da
got humans from Zeus, who proceeded to breed her?
Though Helen, I've heard, would eat seeds from a feeder.
