A boy made a young girl his bride
but their marriage they both had to hide
because of a feud
that their parents pursued,
which led them to sad suicide.

Ann Drysdale 10-27-2020 01:23 AM

Which pair had you in mind, RogerBob? O'Neil's? Zeffirelli's? Luhrmann's?

Brian Allgar 10-27-2020 02:27 AM

Most of these are after my time. Here's something rather more venerable.

He seems an effete city slicker,
But when the flood comes, he is quicker.
He rescues his girl
And her father as well,
Then he dives in again for the vicar.

I don't know what Jim's problem is either, but he's been gnawing on it since he first started trolling here a year ago, calling himself Sean.

I'd have slightly more sympathy if the poems and crits he has posted put the rest of us to shame and gave me some hallowed glimpse into this mythical past he so hankers for. They don't.

As for me, I don't have the time or mental space to crit, let alone write, poems right now so I thought I'd amuse myself with some silly movie fun. It was going well for a while...

Ok Jayne, so I misstepped with my post but it was totally meant in jest, however Ann got her knickers royally in a twist and we had a little toing and froing, of course along come a cupla bandwaggoners’ - Mc Donnell, Steiner, who had to add their gratuitous tuppence, so I responded in kind.

Mar a duirt me libhse areir
ta sibh amadana bochta goleir
go mor, mor McD
agus an t’ollamh bocht St...
anois taimse a lorg glanta speir

As I said ‘‘twas meant in jest, I didn’t think it would be taken seriously, but perhaps some, in their insecurity, were offended and others saw an opportunity to wield a cudgel.

Btw McDonnell, expressing a contrarian view is not trolling .

Mark McDonnell 10-27-2020 03:46 AM

Since I instigated/resurrectied the limerick thread I don't think my being annoyed at your rudeness to Annie can be considered "bandwaggoning". If, after you posted your dismissive limerick and Ann responded with hers, you had responded with "haha touchè" or similar all would have been well. But you didn't. You got ruder. Your intermittent appearances on your unproductive hobby horse of telling people that the place has gone downhill seem the definition of trolling to me.

Put your money where your mouth is. Post some worthy poems. Give some outstanding crits. As my nan used to say "Either shit or get off the pot"
