Keeping my fingers crossed for Alicia!
Nausheen |
Good luck Alicia! I had an extended argument with a senior colleague last week, and at one point in an attempt to pacify me he put his head around my door and announced he had voted for you like I asked. So that's one at least.
|
Alas, it was not to be. Simon Armitage has won the election, with the votes cast thus:
"Armitage received 1,221 of the 3,340 votes cast, with Wole Soyinka in second place on 920 just ahead of AE Stallings on 918." A vote to be proud of, though; just two short of Soyinka. Well done, Alicia. |
Bad luck, Alicia! Congratulations on such a creditable score, however.
Here is The Guardian’s piece about the result: http://www.theguardian.com/books/201...oetry-election. Simon Armitage is a Yorkshireman, from a township to the west of Huddersfield and not far from where I am sitting. (I’m a Yorkshireman, too…) Clive Watkins |
Alicia ran a smart, aggressive (but dignified) campaign that has added to her stature.
|
So much - again - for the polls, which seemed to show Armitage in third place.
Good race, Alicia, against strong odds! Does anybody remember when - and if - a non-UK resident American was a serious candidate? |

Well done, Alicia.
Yours was an excellent result, and leaves you well placed to win the election next time round. Best, David |
I'm sorry, but I can't figure out why you would care Alicia. About any of this.
|
We will regroup and make it happen next time.
