No worries, David! I'm glad we can laugh.

Maryann,
One time I was standing at the counter of an auto parts store in Houston, as the guy was telling me my old junker was so old there was no way he could supply an alternator. And then a long tall drink of water, who was next in line, said to me "I ain't telling you your business, or them their business, but you can get that part down at Lone Star Auto." ;) Which is exactly how I feel. Looks like we're running 3.7, and there's a fix. On another site, of which I have intimate knowledge, we're running 3.8.6, and never see these things. Not that I'm suggesting we should go to the latest (they're up to 4.0), I'm not. Like the old Texan said, I ain't telling you your business, or Alex his business, but there's a patch for that there doo-hickey... ;) Thanks, Bill |
Thanks, Bill. The man who can do the installing has been duly informed. :)

Bill, thanks for trying to help -- I appreciate it. However, the link you give is not applicable here since it's '"Hide Banned Users Profile Page/"Home Page" Link'. This is more about the registration system security. Also, most likely not related to this issue of vBulletin version we're running since no known exploit of that nature has been reported by the vBulletin people, and they're usually good at announcing such problems. It could just be that we're getting more and more popular and appearing the hackers' radar, and will thus experience more break-in attempts than less popular sites, or sites that have not yet drawn their interest.
Having said all that, I've just coded in a fix that should prevent or at least limit this problem, if it's indeed spam bots and not humans (a virtual human/spammer/hacker will have no problem completing the registration requirements successfully in spite of my new patch!). We'll all see how well it holds in the next few days . . . until, maybe, the spammer bots and their hackers -- if indeed they're bots -- discover a workaround eventually, and we're back on the merry-go-round of break-in and scrambling for yet another patch! Cheers, ...Alex |
Wait! Does this mean my pills won't be delivered?
|
I guess that's so, Michael. But at least Maryann won't have to do any manual wallopping

I don't remember who posted it or why, but years ago someone funny (Roger/Bob?, Jim Hayes?, Cantor?) posted something like this for some reason:
TO DO LIST Cialis. See Alice. David R. |
Does this mean the bots are beating CAPCHAs?
Footprints of Artificial Intelligence? Or is some Pillsbury Dough Boy doodling at his Mighty Wurlizter? |
