In Sheridan's A School for Scandal the prologue gives a speech where "wrote" and "Quixote" rhyme. That's kind of like the Romantic poets with PROS-er-pine.

I am probably exposing my ignorance now, but it won't be the first time.

Isn't that the Spanish pronunciation--to rhyme with "wrote", it isn't listed in my Spanish dictionary. I could get out my Spanish pronouncing CD dictionary but I don't know where it is exactly.

Cathy will be along to advise us.

We should have a Salon and discuss important matters like this, poetry and art and someone could play the violin. I was born in the wong era.

If you google "Man of La Mancha" you'll probably find videos that will demonstrate the pronunciation I learned as correct for Spanish speakers: kee HO teh

I tried to link, but it keeps messing up.
Gee,we got far afield from the original question!

Maryann, how did you get to be so smart? Thanks I will check that out.

Yeah, but on the other hand, we have solved the original problem posed by this thread, so I think it is OK to goof around a little. My thread, open house!! But not if the question were still under discussion, then I would flash my badge. Ha!

Seriously, thanks.
