Glad to hear he's happy, John. That's the important thing. And that you're happy. My son-in-law is a retired Navy SEAL with a couple of breathless deployments to Somalia behind him. (He was also stationed at Virginia Beach). He is not one to share his experiences other than to downplay them. He's safe now, with a wife who completes him and four radiant children. . |
Ahh, this is a great thread. If we're doing familial good news, I am thrilled to share that my eldest daughter, who has had a rocky time through a COVID-ridden BA, has completed her Mediaeval History MA and found a job she loves (she was promoted on the second day in). Teaching in a sixth form college. My heart explodes with pride, to the point at which I have made two dozen meringues and posted them to all and sundry to celebrate.

My film director sister, Barbie, whose recent wedding I wrote a poem/song about, has just been awarded an International Emmy in the category of Sports Documentary for the film, Queen of Speed.
Over the moon on her behalf. Duncan PS Barbie's on the right in the photo. |
Brilliant, Duncan! Having been musically present at the wedding, I feel like I know her. Congrats to you both!

Cheers, Carl!
In Danish we say: "It will take a long time to put our arms down." I.e. "Rejoicing has no end." Duncan PS And Danes are still celebrating their victory in The European Cup (in men's football) in 1992, so there's a lot of truth in that. |
It's Very Good News indeed that 2022 has ended!
I think it's safe to say that it was the crappiest year of my life. (I won't bore you with the details, some of which you may already know.) I'm not alone in my feelings about last year -- so let's hope that 2023 is better all round, for everyone! Thank you all for sharing your own personal and family 'highs' (remember, though: no literary triumphs here, please; use The Accomplished Members for that.) Best wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy year ahead, with plenty of Good News. :D Jayne |
Just reporting in, in case anyone was worried about me. It might have been a different story if the huge volume of colliery spoil above my house hadn't been removed (a lorryload at a time!) and spread out safely in the valley bottom. There's a Welsh-medium primary school built on it now.

I have good news as well. This morning I learned a new word: colliery.
