Never mind (twice in one week!)

See John Oliver's take.

I've seen it and am non the wiser. Who is John Oliver? Do I need to know? Les Murray thinks Abbott is the goods, Clive James fancies both his daughters and that's enough for me.

Tony Abbott when young rescued two people from a house fire, then walked away, never to mention it, he lacks imagination, probably not a bad thing in a politican and he's made a few mistakes but he's old fashioned enough to know how deadly debt can be.
The US seems to have given up trying to control it's debt, instead it prints more money in doing so erodes the vaue of the US dollar. The emergence of the Chinese Yuan as the dominant currency seems inevitable. I'm tempted to say China has the US in its back pocket but the US has remarkable powers of reinvention.
I like the Chinese, Singapore is that rare event a 70% Chinese nation that has English as a first language, it is one of the Asian tigers, it was a revelation to me, well run, absolutely modern, drug free, crime free, happy, extrordinarily prosperous.

William A. Baurle 05-01-2015 04:52 PM

Unfair things said about John Whitworth, by Mr. Someone.

I like the Chinese, and so does Mr. Barnstone (typed Barnsworth at first). At least the Chinese poets. The Chinese got royally phuqued by the Japanese in Nanking, which sparked even more anger from the west against that hyper-militant nation, and which probably boosted Hitler's already glowing reverence for those "highly disciplined people in the East."

I do have tremendous sympathy for Chinese children forced to work in factories churning out cheap crap for Amerikans.

Ooops, I mean 'Merca....I mean Americans!

Oh for Chri...I mean Pete's sake!

Maybe the FSM will sort this all out...

This from me, who was once an FSM. < Food Service Manager.

Edit: 5/4: Scratch that ^. I was a Food Service Director, not a Food Service Manager. Slip of the tong. So that would be FSD. Flying Spaghetti Deity.

I didn't know that story about Tony Abbott, but I did know that he has done work in Aboriginal schools. Is imagination having the vision thing or is it just lying?

The awful Miliband has promised muslims that he will make Islamophobia a hate crime. I thought he was just a harmless idiot but he seems rather more sinister than that. He will promise absolutely anything to anyone to hoover up a few more votes.

James Brancheau 05-01-2015 06:15 PM

Only Nanking William? Sorry, but the scale of what happened in Asia in WWII is pretty significant. Mass murder. Genocide. And there are other names for that, of course. "Royally phuqued" is disrespectful.

ross hamilton hill 05-01-2015 09:31 PM

John
Abbott and his wife have three very beautiful daughters, all in their twenties.

He is not the best speaker, he usually makes gaffs when he is exhausted, he was renowned for working for days without sleep, hopefully he's learnt to be less extreme. He is highly intelligent and I think an honourable man.

That piece by Oliver is rubbish, Abbott is not anti-immigration, anti-gay, or anti-women.

James,

Did I type "Only Nanking"? Nope. Looks like I didn't.

I am aware of what happened in Asia in WWII. Or at least a good deal of it.

Your last sentence: I call bullshit. Or you're joking. You don't really think I was being disrespectful, at least not intentionally. Do you?

The problem is that we have an election campaign already started in the States, and there are so many fools scrambling to get to the right of each other - and looking so absurd in the process - that there is nothing that our Sphere colleagues can say (and I hope I'm not proven wrong) that would be as entertaining.

Sounds alright to me, though I tore up in my 'libertarian card' a few years ago. I'm one of those middle-of-the-roaders now, the kind that Ayn Rand hated even more than dyed-in-the-wool socialists. I voted for the libertarian candidate in the last POTUS election, even though his name was spelled wrong on the mail-in early ballot I sent in. Next election, I plan on voting for the person who looks the most like they might have been spawned on another planet. Or I'll pull a George Carlin and abstain from voting, and then poke fun at everyone who did get up off their ass to vote, and laugh all the way to the bank.

Or, in my case, the nearest garbage dumpster.
