Congratulations to David and Julie and Jim. I am tickled pink to be included with these three fine poems.
I'm sure all who had their poem included on this thread, and had the benefit of Rhina's comments, felt like prize-winners already.
I feel, like the Dodo, that everyone deserves a confit, and I just happen to have a bag of them in my apron....
It was wonderful to have such concentrated evidence of what accomplished and varied work is being produced here.

Thanks so much to everyone involved.

Regards, Maz

What an elegant thimble! Thank you, Maz.

I've had a VERY long string of journal rejections over the past year, so this positive attention is going straight to my head. Whoo-hooo!

Thanks to Rhina, Tim, Carol, Sharon, and all those who commented on the poems, for your efforts.

Kudos to David, Maz, Jim, and everyone who shared their work here.

The main lesson I've learned through this experience is that tastes sure do vary. Some of the poems I loved in this batch left other readers quite cold, and vice versa. I'll try to keep that in mind when I check my mailbox. A rejection letter might mean that the particular poems I sent in are lousy, or it might mean that I just haven't found the right reader for them yet.

Congratulations to the winners and, indeed, to all who took part for such a wonderful and varied bunch of poems. Many thanks, also, to Rhina, Tim, Sharon and Carol, and anyone else I should mention, but haven't, for providing us with this very enjoyable end of year party. May we have many more of them!

Hearty congratulations to the winners, David, Julie, Maz, and Jim and a big thank-you to Rhina, Tim, Carol, and Sharon for organizing this event. Working away week by week on the Board, it's easy to lose track of the aggregate being created. This review gives us a sense of the whole and confirms how well Eratosphere fosters excellence. It also highlights and allows us to celebrate the cream of the crop, the winners. I'm particularly pleased to see Jim's humorous poetry commanding the recognition it deserves through inclusion in this illustrious company.

John

Things have quieted down here, with no comments for a while. So I'd like to close by thanking Rhina Espaillat for her generosity in helping us read all of these poems through her perceptive eyes. My understanding of and appreciation for several of these poems grew during the course of these discussions. It did amuse me that Rhina didn't figure out the author of Talking to Lord Newborough. I mean, who the hell else here can spell anything in Welsh? Maybe Sam Gwynn!

Hahah. Actually my father was Welsh, so I'm a sort of half-breed.....
Diolch yn fawr.

Hi Maz

I know that Griffiths is a Welsh name... or is Griffiths your married name, if I might ask? http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/ubbhtml/smile.gif
