Another from Edna
Removed for the reason in the post below. |
I removed the above entry updating Millay because I received an email from Vicky at New Statesman saying they could not consider my previous entry in this thread (the take on Dickinson), because it appeared here, and thus was previously published. Be warned! P.S. I think this is most unfair, but it's their decision, of course. |
I've just had an email to the same effect, Lois. Can anyone explain?
|
Same here.

My husband, BBC2's Legal Beagle (and that'll date any Spherean who recognises the sobriquet) says that while anything in The Sphere is, technically "published" it is probably not published in the sense of having previously been sent off to a journal, or whatever, for selection, and thus suggests that some clarification is requested of Vicky. Would Vicky feel it was "published" if you had already put it on the Boules Club (of which, say, she's a member) Notice Board? |
This must be new. I won just a few weeks ago with an entry I put here first. It would rather bugger up Drills and Amusements if this were so. Perhaps the New Statesman dislikes the fact that we can enter without purchasing the mag (which very few people do) though of course anyone who goes to public library can do this already. I have emailed Lucy at the Speccie.
How does she KNOW is what I want to know. She must be a member. |

Don't forget that anyone can look in on Eratosphere!!!
You can't post anything, be it a poem or a comment, unless you're a member, but otherwise it's available to all and sundry to read what's on the site. I agree, though, that work on a D & A thread shouldn't be regarded as "published"; it's a bit mean to penalise you all and I'm sorry to see that. You deserve the prizes! Jayne |
Indeed it must be a new policy, John, from everyone's previous experience. I think you did mention once that either Vicky or Lucy or maybe even Tessa, knew about D & A and sometimes looked at it, but without at that time affecting anything.
One thing I;ve been meaning to ask: it seems D & A, though a site for member's own work like the other workshops forums is, unlike them, not protected from the web-crawlers. I've sometimes been disconcerted to find a mere first draft plastered over Google. Apologies if I've got this wrong, but could that be a factor behind this apparent new policy? It was a particularly fine Spherean crop so I hope Vicky can be persuaded to reinstate the posted ones on this occasion, whatever the policy in future. |

Vicky has just emailed me to say that the NS never 'knowingly' publish work that has appeared in this (or any other) forum. Lucky for me she didn't check last week. A bit of a shame, but there you go. |
